The campus of the “Universitat de les illes balears (UIB)”.
UIB campus is located
at the Carretera de Valldemossa 7.5 km from Palma de Mallorca downtown.
By the time the Workshop will start, most courses will be
finished and students will be around just for exams. This will make the route
to be not as busy as during course time. The trip from the hotel where the
Participant will be accommodated will take about 10-15 min. Buses will pick up
participants at
The Workshop laboratory
The Laboratory of Microbiology, as in the previous five
Workshop editions, will host the laboratory activities of the Workshop. It is
located at the Guillem Colom building, at 2-3 min walking distance of both the
Campus main cafeteria and the Ca's Jai building, where lunches and Workshop
conferences will develop, respectively.
The laboratory is normally used from October to May to
teach lab courses of the UIB curricula of Biology and Biochemistry, and of the
Biology and Basic Medical Sciences PhD programs. Thus the Workshop itself does
not suppose a challenge for the laboratory in terms of space or equipment.
Three large benches will be used for benchwork, and additional facilities
(kitchen, some equipment, dark room, etc.) from the research laboratories will
be used as needed.

HOTEL
Participants and Faculty will be accommodated at Hotel
Isla Mallorca as in the previous five editions. The hotel has been renovated in
2004 and has a small swimming pool that is really popular among the
participants as a mean to relax between the Workshop and the night free
activities. Hotel Isla
Mallorca address: Alférez
Cerdá, 7. 07014 Palma de Mallorca, Spain - Tél. +34 971 281200 • Fax: +34 971 456503, Internet: www.islamallorca.com.
The
hotel is conveniently located. Within 5 min. walking distance there is the
Paseo Maritimo (the sea side) the largest and most popular area of Palma for
dinner and entertainment, and at about 15. min walk of La Lonja, an area of the
city with many restaurants of all prices, live music places, pubs, etc. From
there, you will just need five more minutes to reach the 13-century Cathedral
at the heart of the Old Ville (Arab Baths, City old defense wall, etc.)
Unless
the Workshop secretariat receives other instructions from the participants, we
will arrange for them reservations for the nights of June 18 (Sunday) until
Saturday 24. Therefore, even if the official activities of the Workshop end by
Sat. 24 around noon, people can arrange their trips back home with some
flexibility, given that they have the room at their disposal, and as a part of
the tuition fees, on Saturday night. This also allows the organizers to have
programmed a non-official paella party on the beach for this day at around 2
p.m.

etc. please click the following link to get a .pdf file with the map [PDF]: the map will print better
than you can see it on your computer screen. On the map you will notice some

AIRPORT
The airport of Palma de Mallorca is the busiest Spanish
airport during the summer, with peaks of more than 120.000 passengers per day.
It is probably larger than you expect for an island, but consider that while
the Island of Mallorca itself has around 600.000 inhabitants (around 300.000 in
its capital, Palma) it receives more than 12 million visitants per year.
The
fastest way to get from the airport to the hotel is by taxi. The fare should
cost you about 20-25 Euros and the trip takes about 15 min. Alternatively,
there is bus no. 1 (also marked as "Aeroport-Ciutat") leaving the
airport and arriving to its final stop at Plaza de España, in Palma downtown.
This bus has a frequency of 15 min and the one-way fare price is 1,80 Euros.
There at Plaza de España you should take bus number 5 until Andrea Doria (fare
1,10 Euros) to get to the hotel, or a taxi (fare <10 Euros).
