The University of the Balearic Islands enjoys renown in the field of research with major international impact. This is evidenced by the results attained in different rankings that assess research quality.
The UIB in the prestigious Shanghai ranking
For the first time, the UIB was included amongst the top 500 universities in the world in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2019, better known as the Shanghai ranking, which was released in August 2019. The university has moved up in recent years, improving on its 2018 spot at 560, in a ranking focused on research excellence.
Amongst the top 3 new universities in Spain
The Times Higher Education ranking places the University of the Balearic Islands as the third best university in Spain for institutions under 50 years old. The 13 performance indicators analysed in the profile of new universities cover five areas: Teaching (learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research impact); international outlook (staff, students and research), and industry income (knowledge transfer).
Three UIB researchers amongst the most cited in the world
The Highly Cited Researchers ranking 2019, from Clarivate Analytics, spotlights three lecturers in the Department of Biology at the University of the Balearic Islands amongst the 6,216 most influential researchers in the world, since they have several works in the top 1% of most cited works in their field of study for the same year. They belong to the Research Group in the Biology of Plants under Mediterranean Conditions (PLANTMED) and the Agro-Environmental and Water Economics Institute (INAGEA).
